Marble Granite

Choosing between Marble and Granite is one of the most common dilemmas faced by homeowners. While both the stones are attractive, they have distinct properties and applications.

In terms of appearance, Granite is largely specular. The grainy crystalline look of Granite is its identity. Marble, however, is predominantly a solid coloured stone. Its trademark appeal comes from the solid smooth colour that is run with delicate veins of different colours. If you seek a flooring that appears magnificent and luxurious, Marble is the stone to opt for. It creates a spacious ambience that is wide and welcoming. Granite should be used if you seek a rugged rich flooring for your rooms.

With regard to scratches and staining, Granite is relatively scratch resistant and more durable. Marble needs more attention and care with stains, especially if it is of a lighter shade. If used in an environment that is highly frequented by people, Marble would lose its lustre over a period of time. However, Granite tends to retain its sheen for relatively long periods. With proper maintenance and polishing, both stones make great choices for flooring.

For bathroom flooring, usually, Granite stone is preferred. Marble might not be a good choice due to its slippery nature. For bathroom backsplashes and countertops, both stones are suitable choices.

In designing kitchens, Granite and Marble are both common choices. While Marble brings out a classy appearance, Granite looks sturdier. Marble is sensitive to acids and chemicals, hence special care must be taken while cleaning it. Granite, however, is relatively resistant to acids.

When it comes to the number of choices available, both Granite and Marble have exhaustive options. However, Granite has a slight edge over Marble in terms of colour and patterns available. The thickness range available with Granite is slightly greater than Marble too. But in terms of cost, Marble is slightly more expensive than Granite. That is to say, both stones are great for surface finishes, it is up to you to decide which one works best for your needs!
